Carpal Tunnel Forewarns Diabetes

Researchers from the UK, reporting in this months Diabetes Care, investigated whether the incidence of carpal tunnel syndrome was increased among people who went on to develop diabetes years later:
"The researchers found that people who had been diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome were 36% more likely to later be diagnosed with diabetes, regardless of other diabetes risk factors."

Certainly, having carpal tunnel syndrome does not ensure a diagnosis of diabetes. But it can be a heads-up to have your blood sugar checked. High blood sugars, even in the pre-diabetes state, can have a damaging impact on nerves.
