Pilgrimage season is near viruses Mers increasingly worrisome

Monday, March 31, 2014

Pilgrimage season is near, viruses Mers increasingly worrisome - Like a deadly virus called SARS mers are known to have infected a number of countries in the Middle East. This virus has even spread to other countries in Europe such as France. This is certainly very worrying, given the Hajj season getting close in late October.

Authorities in Saudi Arabia announced that Summers claimed again. Two people have died after being infected by this virus. Now the death toll from Mers increased to 42 people, while the number of people infected as many as 77 people.

The Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia announced that two of the victims were residents of Al-Ahsa and the 75-year-old woman from Riyadh was 63 years, as reported by the NY Daily News.

Some victims who are outside Saudi Arabia are known dead and infected after visiting the country. This is certainly very risky for the pilgrims who will make pilgrimage to the holy land. Saudi government estimates that about three million Muslims will overwhelm Mecca pilgrimage season, next October.

"The people of New York to go to Saudi Arabia for business and home with the virus. There is no reason that other people (including pilgrims) can not experience it," said Mathew Freieman, a virologist at the University of Maryland School of Medicine , Baltimore.

Mers with mortality due to increase by 50 percent, higher than the SARS virus, it is reasonable for the authorities in Saudi Arabia for a very wary of what might happen when the Haj pilgrims have arrived later.

"We need clear facts and get the correct advice for all the countries that will be sending its citizens to Mecca, the hajj. This is a matter of urgency," said Margaret Chan, WHO.

So far researchers still do not know clearly how the virus can be transmitted Mers and infect others. So far it is estimated mers derived from bats and transmitted to humans.

It is quite a relief that so far there were no reports of virus that infects Mers approximately 4.5 million people who perform Umrah in Mecca. Even so, the Ministry of Health Saudi Arabia trying to make plans to take precautions and keep an eye on the health and safety of Muslims who perform Umrah.
