Instant Wheat Dosa
Saturday, April 26, 2014
Instant dosas or idlies are really handy and definitely saves us when we run out of the Idly batter. For this weeks blogging marathon i chosed instant dosas or idlies as theme and the next two days are going to be healthy, quick and instant versions of dosas and idlies. Coming to todays recipe, its definitely a quick and very healthy dosas we prepare quite often simply with wheat flour and rice flour. This dosa makes a super filling dinner or breakfast if you serves them with a simple chutney or sambhar. Personally wheat dosas are my favourite, since am yet to post this instant dosas in my space, i prepared them few days back for my lunch and enjoyed with some tomato sambhar.
My H and kids dont like these kind instant dosas or idlies that much, but who cares ill make them specially for me.Earlier i insisted them to take these healthy foods, but it never worked with them. Obviously if i want to feed them with wheat flour in dosas, ill add some flour in the sour dosa batter and makes wheat uthappams with loads of onions. This way they will eat without any fuss. However when i chosed this theme for this week, i know am gonna have feast with my favourite instant idlies and dosas. Check out the Blogging Marathon page for the other Blogging Marathoners doing BM#34.

1cup Wheat flour
1/4cup Rice flour
1cup Whisked curd or water
Salt
Oil
Take the wheat flour, rice flour and curd in a bowl.
Whisk them well, add the salt and keep aside for 5 minutes.
Heat a non stick pan, grease the pan with oil using a paper towel.
Now pour a spoonful of batter and turn the pan in clockwise to make thin circle..
Drizzle few drops of oil around and flip the other side and cook well.
Serve this healthy dosas with any sort of spicy chutneys or sambhar..
Notes:
If you want to add spices like cumin seeds and black peppercorns, you can add them while making the batter.
Some may add onion and green chillies, if you want you can add them too.

Mixed Vegetable Masala Dosa
Sunday, March 16, 2014
The best way to sneak veggies is to add either in fried rice or as stuffing in masala dosas, actually i quite often finish leftover vegetable stir fries by stuffing them in crispy dosa and serve them mostly during our dinner. Obviously my small family love vegetable masala dosas. When i chosed cooking with different veggies for this weeks blogging marathons theme, i know ill be making vegetable masala dosas.
Last weekend i prepared this mixed vegetable masala dosa quickly for our dinner and went for a easy breezy vegetable masala, needless to say i prepared my vegetable masala with carrot, cabbage and green peas as i chosed this combination from the list given by Srivalli for cooking with different veggies theme. This vegetable masala gets ready very much quickly and we truly enjoyed having this healthy masala dosa.Check out the marathoners running this 24th edition of blogging marathon here.Sending to Siris Celebrating First Anniversary.

If the idly batter is thick, add water to turn them little bit thin.
Heat a pan, brush the pan with oil, pour a ladle of the idli batter, drizzle oil and cook on both sides..
Place enough vegetable masala in the middle of dosa and fold it.
Serve immediately with spicy chutneys or sambar.

Azhagar Kovil Dosai Black Urad Dal Dosa
Friday, March 7, 2014
Azhagar kovil is a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and this temple is situated 21km from the city of Madurai which is in Tamil Nadu. Black urad dal dosa aka Azhagar kovil dosai is a prasadham offered to God and then distributed to the devotees of Lord Vishnu. Actually this dosai prepared with whole urad dal, rice, whole pepper, dry ginger powder, curry leaves and cumin seeds. Actually this dosa batter doesnt need to be fermented and this dosas will looks very dark coz of black urad dal. In Azhagar temple, this dosa will be cooked completely in ghee and this dosa stays pect for 2-3days in room temperature, but seriously this dosa wont stay long as they tastes fabulous.
I tasted this famous Azhagar kovil dosai long back and this dosa is in my to do list since a long. Finally i prepared some few days back at home itself. Instead of cooking in ghee as like the usual Azhagar kovil dosai, i cooked my dosais simply with oil obviously with less quantity of oil.Usually this dosas looks very thick as like pancakes, but i prepared mine bit thicker and all at home enjoyed thoroughly this dosas with coconut chutney.Coming to this dosas, am posting this vegan dosas today as am a member of Vegan Thursdays, an vegan event running twice a month started by me. Do you want to join us, please send me a mail or leave a comment in this post.Sending to my own event CWS-Urad Dal guest hosted by Sowmya of Nivedhanam.

Red Rice Dosa Sivappu Arisi Dosai
Saturday, February 15, 2014
Red Rice is a unhulled rice, meaning only the outer hard husk has been removed, leaving the inner cover (bran) of the rice grain intact.. It has a slightly nutty flavor and because of the germ of the rice is left intact it has high nutritional value. Red rice is meaty and has volume. One could say it’s heavy because just a little fills you up fast. Red Rice is mostly grown in Asia and tends to be fairly expensive because the yields tend to be low but of high quality.Red rice has relatively high dietary fiber and lowers cholesterol, control blood sugar levels and regulate weight as little will make you fuller. You can get this healthy red rice in natural, organic and health food stores.
It is reputed to be a healtier alternative to polished rice, contains powerful anti oxidants, and have cancer fighting elements. It may not look attractive for those who love white polished rice, has a slightly funky taste somewhat similar to unpolished brown rice which might put off those who are not used to it.Since red rice had many nutritional value i tried making our South Indian dish aka dosas and they came out extremely well.
