How to lose weight fast 7 day diet lose 10 17 lbs

If you want to lose weight fast, but sick of crash diets and fad diets? youre not alone. The weight loss diet program which i am going to reveal can work wonders for you. I strongly recommend anyone desirous of loosing weight to start on this program immediately. This program is designed for a target weight loss of 10-17 lbs per week. It will also improve your attitudes and emotions because of its cleansing systematic effects. Best part of the program is that it is doable!

This plan can be used as often as you like without any fear of complications. It is designed to flush your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well being. After seven days you will begin to feel lighter because you will be lighter by at least 10 lbs. You will have an abundance of energy and an improved disposition.

The effectiveness of this seven day plan is that the food eaten burn more calories than they give to the body in caloric value. To ripe full benefits of the diet plan you must avoid alcohol and drink at least 10 glasses of water daily.

The diet:

Day one
Eat all fruits except bananas. Your first day will consist of all the fruits you want. It is strongly suggested that you consume lots of melons the first day. Especially watermelon and a loupe. If you limit your fruit consumption to melons, your chances of losing three lbs. on first day are very good.

How it works
You are preparing your system for the upcoming programme. Your only source of nutrition is fresh or canned fruits. Fruits are natures perfect food. They provide everything you could possibly want to sustain life except total balance and variety.

Day Two Eat all vegetables. You are encouraged to eat until you are stuffed with all the raw or cooked vegetables of your choice. There is no limit on the amount or type. For your complex carbohydrate, you will start day two with a large baked potato for breakfast. You may top the potato with one pat of butter.

How it works
Starts with a fix of complex carbo-hydrates coupled with an oil dose. This is taken in the morning for energy and balance. The rest of day two consists of vegetables which are virtually calorie free and provide essential nutrients and fibre.

Day Three
Eat mixture of fruits and vegetables of your choice. Any amount, any quantity. No bananas yet. No potatoes today.

How it works
Eliminates the potato because you get your carbohydrates from the fruits. You system is now prepared to start burning excess pounds. You will still have cravings which should start to diminish by day four.

Day four
Today is bananas and milk day. You will eat as many as eight bananas and drink three glasses of milk. This will be combined with the special soup which may be eaten in limited quantities. Find the recipe at the bottom.

How it works
Bananas, milk and soup sound the strangest and least desirable. Youre in for a surprise. You probably will not eat all the bananas allowed. But they are there for the potassium you have lost and the sodium you may have missed the past three days. You will notice a definite loss of desire for sweets. You will be surprised how easy this day will go.

Day Five
Lets have a party today. You will enjoy beef and tomatoes on day 5. Eat two 10 oz. portions of lean beef. Hamburger is OK. Combine this with six whole tomatoes. On day five you must increase your water intake by one quart. This is to cleanse your system of the uric acid you will be producing.

How it works
The beef is for iron and proteins, the tomatoes are for digestion and fibre. Lots and lots of water purifies your system. You should notice colourless urine today. Your allowance calls for the equivalent of five "quarter ponders". Do not feel you have to eat all this beef. You must eat the six tomatoes.

Day Six
Eat beef and vegetables. Today you may eat an unlimited amount of beef and vegetables. Eat to your hearts content.

How it works
It is similar to day five, Iron and proteins from beef, Vitamins and fibre from vegetables. By now your system is in a total weight loss inclination. There should be a noticeable difference in the way you look today, compared to day one.

Day Seven
Today your food intake will consist of brown rice, fruit juices and all the vegetables you care to consume.

How it works
Finished off the program like a good cigar used to finish off Victorian meals, except much healthier. You have your system under control and it should thank you for the flushing and cleaning you just gave it.

Tomorrow morning you will be 10-17 lbs. lighter than one week ago. If you desire further weight loss, repeat the program again. You may repeat this program as often as you like.

The special Soup recipe
The following soup is intended as a supplement to your diet. It can be eaten any time of the day in virtually unlimited quantities. You are encouraged to consume large quantities of this soup.

28 oz, Water, 6 Large Onions, 2 Green Peppers, Whole Tomatoes (fresh or canned), 1 Head Cabbage, 1 Bunch Celery, 4 Envelopes Lipton Onion Soup Mix, Herbs and Flavouring as desired. make a soup and enjoy.

You have been given a recipe for the WONDER SOUP which can be eaten in unlimited quantities. This soup is a supplement while you are on the program and it should be a pleasure to eat. However if you dont like some of the vegetables in the list you can change them according to your taste, but try to stay away from beans as they tend to be high in calories.

11:59

3/4-SLEEVE SWEATERS: nope
FRUGALITY QUOTIENT: nope
HEALTH QUOTIENT: nope
VERDICT: 2/10, for infuriating me with ... factory line footage.

11:58
Now profiling snackmakers Pirates Booty. Its the same damn conveyor belt with different food on it. You wont fool me, Summers!

11:52
Unwrapped is profiling organic grocery store Whole Foods, a.k.a. Whole Paycheck, a.k.a. That Place Where I Cant Afford Apples. Theyre trying to "dispel the myth that organic has to cost more." Unmentioned: "sell $40 chicken legs."

11:45
Its a quarter to midnight and Im drinking iced coffee. The hallucinations should start soon. My Christmas tree is already starting to look like a Tim Burton movie.

11:40
Alternate names for Unwrapped: The Conveyor Belt Show, People in Hairnets, White Owners/ Non-White Employees, and Drippy Chocolate.

11:33
The Husband-Elect and I have a private joke about this show in that sometimes, we have entire conversations using Marc Summers vocal inflections:
Me: "Hon, can you get me ... a cup of coffee?"
Him: "Would you like ... a little milk?"
Me: "Maybe also ... a paper napkin?"
Him: "Of course, Ill ... be right back."

11:31
THE SHOW: Oh god ... Unwrapped.
THE HOST: Marc Summers
THE CONCEPT: How boring mass produced food is boringly made.

11:29
End of show.
3/4-SLEEVE SWEATERS: zero - Weird Al Yankovic shirts is Altons perred look
FRUGALITY QUOTIENT: sky high
HEALTH QUOTIENT: medium
VERDICT: 12/10, for being my TV boyfriend (with apologies to Tim Riggins).

11:27
Alton now preparing a Dutch Pancake, or, as its more commonly known, a Pancake That Pays for its Half of a Date.

11:25
How much I wanted to see "Its Complicated" at the beginning of the day: 54%
Number of commercials for "Its Complicated" seen today: approximately 30
How much I want to see "Its Complicated" now: -4%

11:21
Holy ... the recipe for Yorkshire pudding is almost exactly the same as the recipe for popovers! This show makes everyone smarter. Is there any doubt its the best on Food Network?

11:20
We have suddenly jumped to Yorkshire pudding, as defined in the 1500s. We have gone Back to the Future, and Doc Alton Brown is our guide, Marty.

11:15
The popovers are being filled with all kinds of disturbing things - fruit, ice cream, broth, etc. Wheres the butter? Wheres the jam? They are afraid and alone. Unfrozen Caveman Popovers.

11:12
Have those popover signs been popping up throughout they whole show? They have, havent they? Im not a genius, then. Im merely brilliant.

11:09
Oh! Hes buying a popover pan. Hes making popovers. Im a genius. All hail me.

11:05
This is brilliant. Altons given us the show recipes ingredients, but hasnt revealed the name of the recipe itself yet. We have to figure it out ourselves. He is the Will Shortz of TV chefs.

11:02
Alton is explaining flour, and hes uncomfortably close to the camera. He has 257 eyebrow hairs.

11:00
THE SHOW: Good Eats! Finally!
THE HOST: Alton Brown!
THE CONCEPT: Cooking nerd schools us, is generally pretty great.

10:59
End of show.
3/4-SLEEVE SWEATERS: 0
FRUGALITY QUOTIENT: pretty high - theyre volunteers
HEALTH QUOTIENT: theyve been working out, so its okay
VERDICT: 6/10, for the lack of yelling.

10:57
Miss Brenda just got a look at her new home, and shes stunned. The dining room almost knocked her over. What a sweet lady.

10:47
Fill in the blank! There is a disturbing amount of food _____:
A) stitting outside without rigeration
B) in close proximity to the ground
C) being prepared by men whose primary talent is sweating

10:42
Irvine is hilariously reluctant to yell at his fellow volunteers. Its like watching a pit bull with a Barbie jump rope tied around its muzzle.

10:40
In regard to Bobby Flays repeated Throwdown drubbings, reader Kat writes: "Challenging anyone and everyone to a Throwdown is getting slightly embarrassing, especially when you lose every dang time. Im only trying to protect you, man."

10:38
The manufactured drama in this show is freakin killing me. Have they ever not finished in time?

10:36
Our brown rug is now a brown rug with red spots. Merry Christmas!

10:31
Sweet and sour sauce spill. Back in a minute.

10:24
Ooo - I lied. This is an hour-long show. Irvine is safe ... FOR NOW.

10:17
This show ends in 13 minutes and no ones started cooking yet. Theyre about to have some very angry Habitat for Humanitarians on their hands. And they have hammers.

10:14
Does everyone in Mississippi play banjo or blues guitar? Is that a prerequisite to live in the state? On Long Island, you have to know the lyrics to every Bill Joel song.

10:12
Robert is squaring off/doing a dance of love with the local soul food restaurant owner. If theyre not making out by the end of this, I will eat my own socks.

10:03
At the end of the show, theyre giving Brenda keys to her renovated home, which was ruined in Katrina in 2005. Yknow, weve been looking at pictures from the hurricane for three years now, and its still infuriating and sad.

10:00
THE SHOW: Dinner Impossible
THE HOST: Robert Irvine
THE CONCEPT: The Chef has to feed 1000 volunteers in Biloxi, Mississippi. He has nine hours.

9:58
End of show. Father Leo won, duh.
3/4-SLEEVE SWEATERS: none
FRUGALITY QUOTIENT: pretty high
HEALTH QUOTIENT: fairly high, I guess. Im flustered
VERDICT: 9/10, for avoiding the obvious holy cow jokes

9:58
The bed music sounds like its excerpted from Rocky 16: Rocky Goes to Crate & Barrel.

9:52
Dear Pope Benedict,
Hi there! How are you? So glad you seem to be doing well. I was just wondering - is there a way to incorporate more fajitas into the average mass? I promise I would go more often.
Hugs,
Kristen
P.S. I understand if you dont want to dignify this with a response.

9:48
Father Leos secret marinade ingredient: "holy water." And he was taught to chop by Mother Theresa. What a cool life, Batman.

9:43
Father Leo is a ham of the highest order. Can I say that? Will I still get into heaven?

9:41
We have entered Hour 12 of the blogathon. There is a butt-shaped jello mold where my actual butt used to be.

9:38
A haiku about Father Leo:
Awesome ninja priest
preaches peace but will nunchuk
you if provoked, dude.

9:33
Leos a breakdancing Catholic priest who loves cooking and has a third-degree black belt. He also has many, many religious cooking puns in his back pocket. Bobby is a dead man. And his soul isnt too safe, either.

9:30
THE SHOW: Throwdown
THE HOST: Bobby Flay
THE CONCEPT: Bobbys challenging a priest for the Best Fajita crown. Expect a lot of holy plays on words.

9:28
End of show.
3/4-SLEEVE SWEATERS: none - will the mustache suffice?
FRUGALITY QUOTIENT: surprisingly relevant - there was a budgetary aspect to the challenge
HEALTH QUOTIENT: uh - okay, I guess
VERDICT: 7/10, for the mustache

9:27
The fire chief/eree has an incredible handlebar mustache not unlike this Emperor Tamarin.

9:22
Bobbys adding honey to his tomato sauce. Ive never seen that before. Italian grandmamas that read this blog: does this happen?

9:20
If my ears doth not deceive me, Keith just called his poultry "chicken bosom." Im using that from now on and claiming it as my own. No one will ever know. MUAHAHAHAHA.

9:19
But seriously, Keith ate him.

9:18
Oh, how I jest. Both men are still alive. Their fight will be fought in an arena of food.

9:15
Bobby walked into the firehouse to propose the challenge and Keith ate him. It was awful.

9:12
Big difference between Bobby and Keiths cacciatore: Flay uses red wine, while the fiighter opts for white, figuring it goes better with chicken. I think I have to go with the Iron Chef here, folks. Red wine + tomatoes = party in my mouth, and everyones invited.

9:10
Chicken cacciatore literally translates into "hunters chicken," or "chicken that you caught with a big gun and then soaked in tomatoes until its bloody-looking."

9:06
Do you have a distinctive accent? Does it get worse when youre around your family? Mine does, and Bobbys is too, the longer he hangs out with these New York fiighters.

9:01
New York City firehouse chef Keith Young is 6-foot-6, and has a Long Island accent thats almost as big. He loves "protectin prah-petty" and "caw-melized onions." I love his bald head.

9:00
THE SHOW: Throwdown
THE HOST: Bobby Flay
THE CONCEPT: The Chef of note challenges a renowned Chicken Cacciatore cook to discover whose version is best.

8:59
End of show.
3/4-SLEEVE SWEATERS: none - but the bird of paradise blouse made up for it
FRUGALITY QUOTIENT: n/a
HEALTH QUOTIENT: below absolute zero
VERDICT: 10/10 - insanely entertaining, yall

8:54
Michaels here! Hes dressed in a Santa suit to enhance his natural Santa-ness, and even in the jacket, its apparent hes lost significant weight. Paula has too, come to think of it. Anyone know what theyre doing?

8:53
Paula is calling her decorator out for bringing store-bought cookies to the swap. The decorator looks mortified, like you just told her she has toilet paper stuck in her teeth.

8:52
Reader Robyn has an excellent question: "What happened to the lady who won the last Food Network Star?"

8:48
Yall, were not done yet! Paulas decking the halls in a tasty way. Or something. Its late, and I just ate two pounds of sesame noodles.

8:44
Crossover alert! Paulas brought in Bobby from HGTV. Hes teaching her how to wrap cookies all pretty-like, with ribbon and such. History Channel wishes it was this riveting.

8:38
If our first child is a boy, were naming him Paul Dean. He will be Southern, super gay, and totally delightful.

8:33
How do the Deens have so many family recipes? It seems like every dish has been in their family since the beginning of time. We have one family recipe, and its for wallpaper paste.

8:32
Jamie and Bobby sighting! Theyre making ... sand tarts? What the hell are they saying?

8:29
Seen today: Ina, Giada, Bobby, Tyler, Rachael, lots of Paula
Unseen today: Mario, Ace, Sara, Anne Burrell, Santa Claus, James Bond

8:22
The further we get into this show, the more apparent its become that Paula might be partaking in some Christmas spirits. I wish I could join her, but there are EIGHT HOURS OF BLOGGING LEFT. Eat your heart out, Jerry Lewis.

8:14
Also, theyre toasting nuts. Hee. Toasted nuts.

8:11
Hee. The lady cooking with Paula now is named Mrs. Susie Butts. In college, I worked making cold calls to hundreds of people with (really real) names like Warren Peace, Homer Simpson, John F. Kennedy, and Mrs. Shitrit.

8:06
Paula 2009 is the kind of grandma youd introduce to all your friends, and then take to a champagne bar/drag club to hang out with ladies with names like Barbara Ghanoush and Honey Crisp. The next day, shed disappear back to Georgia and youd be sad for like, 100 years.

8:04
Time for another multiple choice question! Paula is wearing:
A) a brightly-colored shirt
B) Jimmy Buffet
C) several pomegranates
D) a Polynesian barbecue

8:02
Paula 2009 is SO MUCH MORE GLAM than Paula 2006. Whereas Paula 2006 probably enjoyed bridge and 60 Minutes, Paula 2009 would wear leather pants and tour with the Scissor Sisters.

8:01
THE SHOW: Paulas Cookie Swap
THE HOST: Paula Deen
THE CONCEPT: Friends and family of the Deenster are dropping by with their favorite cookie recipes. Jamie and Bobby are here! Finally, yall!

7:59

Edible Film Baker is getting reamed by the judges. (A pun! Its a pun!)

L.A. guy just told his mom to clean up his mess! Its a shocking parent/child role reversal and its making me uncomfortable. The familial hierarchy exists for a reason, people!

How I know the Husband-Elect is the right guy: he saw me after ten hours of blogging and didnt scream "CRONE!" and run away to Timbuktu.

Staten Island baker is using an edible film paper, which I had no idea existed. I will be licking a lot more random paper now. Yknow, to test it out.

Question for readers: would you want to eat ornaments that have been shoved in a sap-filled Christmas tree? Where squirrels and birds might have lived? I suck on tinsel every now and then, so no judgment.

7:40
The Long Island bakers brother is hilariously inept.
Interviewer: What do you like, David?
Brother: Sports and ... uh, sports.

Brother (holding up ornament): Where should I put these?
Baker: Its a Christmas tree, David.

Food Network Drinking Game, Rule #2893752: If something can go wrong with a Food Challenge ingredient, it will. And it wont be something youd ever expect. "Oh no, my tortilla is too flaky!" "Oh no, my edible silver beads are too roll-ey!" "Oh no, my cream puffs are becoming too moist, which will disconnect them from the adhesive chocolate!"

Another baker basically took some lasagna ingredients, spray painted them, and threw them up wherever theyd fit. Im not sayin I could do that, but Im very good at sticking lasagna in trees.

One baker is making garland out of metal tubing and cream puffs. Another is doing it with amber sugar-covered chestnuts. These may end up tasting like roofing material, but they sure look good.

In New York, theres a childrens behavioral adjustment program commercial that promises to fix your kids bad habits. One part claims it will even "turn your childs attitude around in one minute or less." Imagine the possibilities there. I imagine it will involve threats to send kids to China.

Food Network brought in the contestants parents and siblings in as special assistants, and there is immediate friction between the Staten Island mother/daughter pair. I hope this doesnt devolve into Jersey Shore-style shenanigans. Theres not enough spray tan in the world.

7:06
There is a shocking lack of Carrie Whats-her-face, the terrifying British judge that usually reduces the contestants to weeping piles of mushy goo. Its going to be up to the guy with the glasses and spiky hair who isnt Guy Fieri (TGWTGASHWIGF), and I dont think he has the cojones.

7:03
Todays competitors are three New Yorkers and a dude from L.A. whose "mother would cry if [the tree] wasnt pretty enough." Has mom trained him well enough? Will the New Yorkers bring their crowbars? Can everyone make nice flowers? FEEL THE EXCITEMENT.

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

The links are back, yo! Its a new year, and to go with it, we have some new sources, along with proven favorites like Marion Nestle and the minimalist, uh ... (nothing rhymes with "minimalist," except maybe "Stephanie Zimbalist," but if anything did, I would put it here) ... always great Mark Bittman.

1) Grandparents.com: Recipe Section
I maintain this now! It’s my job! So, I’m posting it as #1. You might exclaim, “Why, she’s gone mad with power. MAD, I tell you.” And in reply to that, I cackle maniacally, shake my fist at the heavens and reply, “Yup.” (P.S. As you would expect with a grandparentally-oriented website, the cookie section is particularly solid. Not my doing, but my predecessor’s.)

2) New York Times: How the Microplane Grater Escaped the Garage
Loved this neat piece about microplane creator Chris Grace, who was just trying to file some wood. It’s like the penicillin legend, only delicious and less yogurty.

3) Food Politics: Predictions – National Nutrition Issues for 2011
Marion Nestle gazes deeply into her crystal cantaloupe and comes up with eight food policy issues (see: the title of her blog) that will be on everyone’s lips in the coming year. Most prominent: safety and school eats.

4) 344 Pounds: Stop Making Excuses for Weight Problems
Somewhat bluntly worded? Yep. Somewhat totally true? Absolutely. And it’s advice it’s about time I took. (Why, hello, post-honeymoon/holidays precipitous weight gain! I missed you so.)

5) Jezebel: The Problem With the Special K Challenge
In a nutshell: It’s nutritionally and calorically no good. But there’s a much more extensive, detailed explanation inside.

From Flickrs megleo
6) Washington Post: Consumer Reports Insights - Breakfast is important; tips for making it nutritious
Old news, reconfirmed, but with lots of interesting, helpful, and practical solutions to cramming breakfast into a busy day.

7) The Kitchn: 10 Inspiring Blogs on Vegan Food & Cooking
You! Meatless, eggless, and cheeseless people! Heed my call! Read this and weep no longer, for your diets have been saved from a eon of snow peas and cold spaghetti.

8) Food Network: Paula Deen’s English Peas Recipe
Come for Paula’s recipe. (Butter + peas = buttered peas.) Stay for the incredible comments. (Skip the first three. They’re a tad bitter.)

9) Bittman: Muffins, Infinite Ways
Not only is this a solid master recipe for all sorts of muffin-oriented treats, but “Muffins, Infinite Ways” will be the name of my first album.

10) Serious Eats: 5 Veggie-Packed Frittatas
Not only is this a solid post about healthy variations on the standard egg dish, but “5 Veggie-Packed Frittatas” will be the name of my first child.

AND ALSO

Saturday Night Live: Amusement Park Ride
Dunno if y’all saw SNL this past weekend, but Jim Carrey hosted, and about 2/3rds of the way through the show, they aired this sketch. It’s about a young couple haunted by animatronic figures when an amusement park ride breaks down. And it’s awesome. I forgot what a phenomenal physical comedian Jim Carrey is. Look at his face. 7 Healthy Snacks for Weight Gain

Sunday, February 23, 2014

If your goal is to gain weight instead of lose it, eating healthy snacks is one way to go. To make sure that you add on those much-needed pounds, go for food that’s high in calories, carbohydrates, protein and healthy unsaturated fats. If you’re counting your calories, make sure that your intake is more than the recommended. Pretty soon, you’ll see your weight rising healthily up the scale.
More than just choosing the right types and amounts of food to snack on, it will also help to change your eating habits. Use a generous heaping of olive oil, canola oil or peanut butter on your food. Also, make sure that your drinks contain some healthy weight-gaining sugars. Instead of strictly having 3 square meals, make sure to snack in between. To give you an idea of good, healthy munchies for weight gain, here are 7 snack ideas you can zero in on:

1. Nuts and Seeds

Nuts alone are good muscle building snacks. They are high in monosaturated fats, and even contain a healthy heap of protein and calories. For a better weight gain strategy, you can throw in some peanut butter for a tasty treat. Don’t overlook flax seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, pistachios, and other nuts and seeds.

2. Tuna

Tuna has been a long-time favorite of fitness buffs. Some would argue that it’s perfect for losing weight because of this fish’s low fat content. Being high in protein and healthy calories makes it a perfect snack choice for those who wish to gain weight.

3. Whole Fat Dairy Products

Veer away from low-fat skim products, and instead opt for the full-cream and whole milk. These are rich in protein and fat, which will help you quickly go up the scales. Feel free to add some whole fat cheese, like Swiss and Cheddar, to your snacks and sandwiches. Don’t hold the yogurt either, as this also contains some healthy weight-gaining dairy.

4. Crackers and Bagels

You need not zoom in to the white breads and high-carbohydrate offerings. Crackers and bagels made from whole wheat, bran and sesame can help you pack on some pounds. Use a generous heaping of peanut butter, jams, margarine or honey to ring up those calories and proteins.

5. Cereals

You might be surprised to note that cereals actually contain some healthy calories. The health conscious always seek these out in their daily diet, but they’re also great snacks for weight gainers. You can opt for the healthier cereal and veer away from frosted flakes and puffs. Go for a healthy heaping of granola, oats and muesli. Add in some raisins and fruits, and douse in whole milk. You got yourself a healthy high-calorie snack.

6. Fruits and Vegetables

Even if snacking on fruits and munching on salads is a favorite of dieters, those who aim to gain weight shouldn’t shun fruits and vegetables. They are high in vitamins, minerals and healthy sugars that can definitely aid you in adding a few healthy kilos. Snacking on dried fruits is also advisable, so don’t turn away from dried prunes, raisins and the like.

7. Traditional Snack Foods

This is one advantage weight-gainers have over dieters; they’re still at liberty to reach for the traditional snacks. Go easy on these carbohydrate high-calorie snacks, because they’re not all that healthy when taken in large amounts. But, the increase in calories will certainly help you reach your weight goal. Dark chocolates and baked potato chips should not be scrapped from your snacks list; pretzels are always good as well!

Top Ten Links of the Week 10 1 10 10 7 10

Friday, February 21, 2014

Sweet readers! I would have submitted this sooner, by my cat has somewhat forcibly taken up permanent residence on my bosom. What’s the protocol for this?

That aside, we have a solid, fairly diverse link roundup today, including a late #1 entry that might just be the greatest thing in the world. Besides “Fart Barfunkel,” I mean.

1) The Kitchn/Just JENN: Look! A Star Wars Theme Party
If the Death Star watermelon doesn’t reel you in, the Han-Solo-trapped-in-carbonite-jello will snag you for sure. Don’t miss the Leia cupcakes or the Sarnac Dip, either, if you know what’s good for you, Luke. Er, I mean, reader.

2) Eating Rules: October Unprocessed
Blogger Andrew Wilder is going 31 days without eating an iota of processed food. How he’ll handle Halloween, I have no idea (Et tu, mini Snickers?), but I like his moxy. And his updates. He’s already a week in, but feel free to join him in the challenge.

3) Jezebel: Healthy Living Blogs Maybe Not So Healthy
Are food and exercise blogs helping others live healthier, or encouraging extreme eating and exercising? A recent Marie Claire article came out firmly in the latter’s corner, but Jez makes good points on both sides. Promoting disordered diets is something we really try to steer clear of here, while still acknowledging that occasionally, folks might want to drop a few pounds. I hope that’s always clear. If not – crap – please let me know a.s.a.p.

4) Washington Post: Public Health Advocates Worry that Dietary Advice Will Get Lost in Translation
The government is revising its dietary guidelines this year, and many are looking at the new advice as a trial, testing whether the Obama administration is serious about the Let’s Move initiative. Because in the past? The feds have kinda been talking out the sides of their mouths on this one.

5) New York Times: After Growth, Fortunes Turn for Monsanto
Holy moly. Monsanto’s stock dropped 42% since January. Not only are farmers growing fewer specific crops than the company projected, but it’s being outpriced by Chinese competitors and out-PR’d by everybody else. Yowza.

6) HuffPo/Eating well: Food Labels That Lie
Are “natural,” “organic,” and “local” all they’re cracked up to be? You can probably guess the answer, but this piece includes some good explanations as to why.

7) SF Gate: Whole wheat, but not the whole story
Wondering how to choose the best supermarket bread? From Marion Nestle: “Inspect labels to make sure the first ingredient is whole grain, the total number of ingredients is small and devoid of unpronounceable chemicals, the fiber content is at least 2 grams per 1-ounce serving and the label says 100 percent whole wheat.” Word.

8) ReadyMade: Stop Wasting Food
We’ve seen these kind of food saving tips before, but never all together or put so well. Scroll down a little to find ‘em.

9) Money Saving Mom: Are Food Savers Worth the Money?
Speaking of saving food ... the bags are pricey, but if you eat a lot of meat and/or hunt for your dinner,  readers say the vacu-pack machine is well worth the investment.

10) Culinate: The Beauty of the Immersion Blender
A.K.A., Ode to the KitchenAid Stick. Husband Man and I received one for our shower, and it has saved my sanity, not to mention quite a few sleeveless tees.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

The 25 Food Project Day 7

Saturday, February 8, 2014

I’m attempting to feed my 6-foot, 205-pound fiancĂ© for one week for $25. This is our story.

Folks, we’re done. Wrapped. Fini. If this experiment was The Beatles, today is Let it Be. (Or Abbey Road, depending on what country you occupy.) We’re mostly pretty triumphant, and came in a penny under the $25, which I will now frame and hang in the shower.

There’s a ton coming tomorrow - conclusions, a shopping list, an exit interview – so we’re gonna cut straight to the numbers and a few notes tonight. Hope they’re informative, and we’ll see y’all soon!

  • Dinner was a spinach frittata, home fries, and a banana. I loves me some frittatas because they’re easy and look good. Which is also how I like my men. (HAHAHAHA sorry.)
  • He’s a big fan of breakfast in general, but the Maple Morning Polenta was a real hit with the Husband-Elect. I don’t know if it’s the taste or his love affair with corn products, but I’ll take it.
  • I finally kicked the Chili tonight. Henceforth, it will be called Infinity Chili.

7 Fun Low Impact Workouts You Should Try this Autumn

This autumn, why not get out of the gym and try something new? Exploring the beauty of life around your city. Or try a class that youve always considered but never dared participate in. You can do a variety of excellent low-impact workouts, and yet still get in great shape. Now that bikini season is over, youll be under less pressure to get in "prime condition." Its time to have some fun with your workouts, and take it easy on your joints too!

1. Fusion Classes

Have you ever tried to do dance and Yoga at the same time? Or cardio Pilates? Fusion classes are all the rage, and theyre a fun way to get in shape in a new and unique way. This workout involves two or more different styles of exercise, and combines them in a way that youd never have dreamed of before. Youd be amazed at the crazy combinations people can dream up when theyre trying to come up with new exercise programs--which may be surprisingly fun!

2. Paddleboarding

This is somewhat of a cross between surfing and kayaking, and youll find that its a great workout for your upper body. Stand-up paddleboarding is done using a paddle to propel your board out onto the water. Those on the West Coast will no doubt have heard of this style of boarding, and youll find that theres even crazy combinations like Paddleboard Yoga. What a fun way to get in shape before it gets too cold to swim!

3. Aqua Aerobics

Most people think of Aqua Aerobics as being for senior citizens only, but there are many hardcore water aerobics classes for the younger generation. Imagine trying to run in place while knee deep in water, or trying to do inverted push-ups while half submerged. Its a pretty intense form of exercise/cardio, and yet the water makes it very easy for your joints. These classes tend to be low-impact workouts that get you breathing hard!

4. Swimming

Theres nothing quite like a good swim to take the edge off the late summer/early autumn heat--particularly in the south of the country (Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Florida, etc.). Swimming is very low impact--easy on the joints--but its amazing for both your cardio endurance and for your upper body muscles. As long as youre actually swimming and not just splashing around, you can get in amazing shape. The best part: you can swim in a heated indoor pool even throughout the chilly winter.

5. Canoeing or Kayaking

Kayaking and canoeing both involve very little stress placed on your knee and ankle joints, and its pretty easy on your arm and shoulder joints as well. It will work those upper body muscles like nothing else can, and youll find that youre in much better shape after just a few weeks of hard rowing.

6. Inline Skating

Inline skating is a bit hard on your feet and ankles, but its actually quite good for those with tender knees and arms. Youll be amazed by how quickly you can tire out, and youll love the feeling of speeding down the street on those slick inline wheels. Whether you train on the streets or at a track, its a good way to take the pressure off your upper body.

7. Walking/Hiking

If you want the ultimate low impact workout, let Mother Nature be your trainer! Taking a walk/hike out into the forest or mountains near your home will allow you to see the beauty of the autumn wilderness, while easily walking away those calories. A daily walk in the park can help you to prepare for those weekend-long hiking and camping trips youll plan with your family. Its a low-impact exercise that involves a whole lot of fresh air--it doesnt get better than this.
